TEACHING PHILOSOPHYCentral to my teaching philosophy is hybridity. I believe just as much in grammar-based structure as I do in a communicative approach. Language, after all, is used to transmit meaning, and without a foundation built on grammar, a language learner will produce more confusion than clarity.
As such, I conduct my lessons in the classroom with both camps of thought in mind. My students are aware of the structures at the core of the sentences they produce which allow them to communicate with confidence. In my experience, interdisciplinary students and hybrid learning atmospheres are two sides of the same coin. Ultimately, it is my job to inspire creative and constructive learning, and incorporating the many wonders of the Italian culture in the process accomplishes both endeavors. Avanti! |
